INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Ben Davis' boys’ team got off to a fast start at this year’s boys state track and field meet. They were lead by Senior Matt Terrell. He started the meet by winning the 100 meters -- his first state title in that event.
Terrell said, "I feel good to finally do it after three years, coming back, working hard and stuff. So I feel good inside."
Terrell notched another gold medal in the 200, becoming the first boy to win three straight in that event in more than two decades -- and he wasn't done. He was part of the 400 relay, which took home gold for the third-straight year.
Colin Hester, a member of the relay said, "Feels great because we just three-peated and we just broke our school record again.”
And while Ben Davis won their second-straight team title, a couple of individuals not wearing purple defended their titles too.
In the high jump, Warren Central's Derrick Spight added to his golden hardware.
Spight said, “Feels great to go and repeat again -- came up a little bit short. I was trying to get the state record…kinda down about that but repeating again kinda cheers me right back up."
Fisher's Drew Sheilds, who battled an illness during the season, came back strong for his second gold in the mile.
"This one is really special too, had to overcome a lot to get here, so a good way to go out for a senior for sure," said Sheilds.
Ben Davis won with 56 points while Warren Central finished second with 33 points.
