INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Pacers held a workout Tuesday morning for several NBA hopefuls. One of the guys who attended was former Notre Dame star and former Indiana Mr. Basketball, Luke Zeller.
Zeller wants the Pacers to take notice of his attitude and hard work.
“There are only two things you can control, your attitude and how hard you are working, rest is up to someone else," said Zeller. “The biggest thing is just being a big guy that can step out and shoot...and a big guy who can play defense inside and guard people on the outside."
Zeller grew up in Indiana and has played his entire career in the state. So, of course he would love to continue playing professionally in the Hoosier state.
"For me, a dream come true. I grew up a Pacers fan, so for me to be in here taking a step towards that dream, is a dream come true," said Zeller.
Zeller's not the only one chasing a dream. Former University of Wisconsin star Marcus Landry also attended the workout. He knows more than most how important the opportunity can be. His older brother Carl was a star at Purdue and is now playing for the Houston Rockets.
"To have someone been through it, like my brother, his name was on the mock draft but he worked hard and eventually he got drafted at 31. There is hope for me, just continue to work hard," said Landry.
For Landry and Zeller, that's all they can do and, in the process, they can pick up some advice from a basketball great.
“Larry Bird is my favorite player. And growing up in Southern Indiana, by default, and to be able to see him and workout and be able to workout for a team he's part of, is an honor," said Zeller.
