INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - When you think of where you would find champion-level water skiers, you don’t normally think Indiana, but Danville senior B’Ster Detty is one of the country’s best young water skiers.
He won a national championship in 2008 and has placed at nationals three out of the last four years.
“I like it because in the summer, after a hot day, I can go and cool off in the lake skiing,” said Detty. “It’s a way for me to relax. It’s kind of like my freedom. ”
Water skiing is in his blood. His parents met water skiing, and his dad now helps in a coaching capacity, but his family’s dedication to the sport goes even further. They moved to their current Danville home that sits on a lake specifically crafter for water ski training.
“The shores are sloped at a rate of 10 to 1, so when the wakes from the boat hit the shore, they don’t return to the skiers’ area,” said B’Ster’s father Brian. “There are also turn islands to absorb the wake when the boat turns. ”
Detty hopes to continue his water skiing career in college.
