INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Perry Meridian quarterback Conner Smith made his mark on the football program this year, breaking just about every QB record in the books as a junior.

“You couldn’t ask for a better kid to be the quarterback of your football team,” said Falcons head coach Scott Marsh.

“I like being a leader.  I’ve always been a leader, so being able to go out on a Friday night and having the school have your back is kind of a cool feeling to me,” said Smith.

And when he’s done calling the plays on the football, he’s continuing it on the school’s radio club, Falcon Web Radio, which broadcasts school sporting events online at www.IHigh.com.  As student-director of the club, he even added a weekly roundtable discussion where they debate the hottest news in sports.

“I like to give my insight on what’s going on.  I like to be an opinionated person, but also you get to learn a lot.  Plus you get into basketball games for free so you can hate on that,” said Smith.

“[He’s] articulate, analytical.  His ability to analyze is key, and he takes that analytical nature to the football field as well,” added Rick Swengel, Falcon Web Radio advisor.  “I’m the PA announcer and watching him on the field is pretty fun because you see that analytical nature, which obviously a quarterback needs.”
