INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The big match-up in the Hoosier Heritage Conference this week pits the Mount Vernon Marauders against the Pendleton Heights Arabians. The schools in the HCC are made up of mostly 4A’s with a couple of 3A’s as well. They spend most of the regular season beating up on each other, and often don’t get as much attention as some of the bigger conference schools. Don’t be mistaken, though, these teams can still play some good football. This game is another between two schools that are about 10 miles apart, which means the stands should be packed on both sides of the field.
Mount Vernon is currently 3-1 on the season, with their lone loss coming in overtime to 5A Kokomo. The Marauders offense is scoring a blistering 42.5 points per game and has put up over 50 points each of the last two weeks. Their defense has done alright, giving up 19.5 points per game. It will be tough for them to hold Pendleton Heights to under 20 points in this one, but if they are able to, their chances for a win should be good. Just to add fuel to the fire, the kids from Mount Vernon are probably looking for some retribution after being knocked out of the sections each of the last two seasons by the Arabians.
Pendleton Heights also enters week five with a 3-1 record. Their lone loss came by just three points, 17-14, to Shelbyville last week. Despite that, they are ranked 13th in the 4A Coaches’ poll, and 10th in the 4A media poll. The Arabian offense was averaging 43 points per game through week three, after putting up only 14 last week it bumped their average down to 35.75 points per game, still pretty good. Their defense has been consistent all season though, only allowing 16 points per game. Just like their opponent, if their defense can hold close to their season average, they have a great chance at winning. It is more likely that this one will be a shootout between the offenses though.
