SOUTHPORT, Ind. (WISH) - Giants versus Warriors, east side versus west side, power house versus power house, two versus three — no matter how you phrase it, this is a big game. Ben Davis versus Warren Central pits two of the top 5A teams in the state in a battle for bragging rights between two MIC teams.

Ben Davis is 3-0 so far this season and is currently second in the 5A polls. Their biggest challenge so far has been a 24-21 victory over Cathedral. The Giants will have to bring their “A” game if they want to get by Warren Central though, especially since they have to travel across town to do it. Ben Davis has dropped three straight games to MIC Conference foe Warren Central, with their last win coming in the 2008 regional. For a program that has seven 5A State Championships, they are hungry to return to the top of their class. They haven’t even been to a state final since they won back-to-back in 2001 and 2002. What better way to announce their return to title contention than taking down the Warriors on their home field.

Since 2002, Warren Central is 13-2 against Ben Davis. In that span, the Warriors have racked up an impressive five state championships. They enter this week at 2-1 and are ranked third in the 5A Coaches’ poll. Their lone loss came to Cathedral, a team that this week’s opponent beat. The Irish defense held Warren Central to just 7 total points. The Warriors have long been known for their great defense, but to be held to 7 points is very impressive. They will have to correct their mistakes and put some points up if they want to beat Ben Davis.
