SOUTHPORT, Ind. (WISH) - While not a battle of traditional powerhouses or teams that will probably even be in contention in late November, this inter-township game often proves to be an entertaining one. Southport takes on Perry Meridian Friday night.
Last year Southport won 28-27 in overtime, but as you look farther back in the record book, this rivalry seems to even itself out over the years, including a 5-5 split in the last 10 matchups. Not only do these two schools share a township, they also share a home football field. That should make it easy for lots of fans to come and pack the stands and keep the energy high in this one.
Both teams enter week four with a 1-2 record and are unranked in class 5A. But that doesn’t mean a lot to the kids, both the ones playing and the ones in the stands. Perry Meridian is listed as the home team, so this will be one of those odd times that Southport will have to assume the roll of the visitors, even though they are playing at the stadium that is next to their school. It should be a good one on the south side this Friday.
