INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The NBA draft is next week. Meanwhile, the Pacers are continuing to hold pre-draft workouts. Monday they invited a national champion and, for the third time in less than a week, they brought in an Indiana native.

Indianapolis-native Jeff Teague wants to prove he can play in the NBA. In fact, the Wake Forest guard decided to skip his junior and senior year.

"I'm in 100 percent. I want to thank Wake Forest for everything they have done for me, but I want to try and test this and see how I do," said Teague.

He's worked out with several NBA teams in the past month, but playing in front of the Pacers has been the most stressful. He starred at Pike High School and grew up a Pacers fan.

"Oh yeah, I was a Reggie fan growing up. I wanted to be a three-point shooter and it is finally coming around," said Teague. "And it doesn't matter if you grew up an Indiana Pacers fan when you come here you are working out in front of a legend, Larry Bird."

Ty Lawson, from the 2009 NCAA National Champion North Carolina Tar Heels, knows Teague well.

"ACC rivals...I mean he's a cool dude off the court. I mean, real good on-the-court slasher. He gets to the basket, he's a good player," said Lawson.

Lawson may be a young guy but he's still aware of Bird's glory days.

"He's one of the greats. He played in the league for 13 years, all star, everything like that...scoring record, NBA championships. He's done it all, so it feels good to play in front of him and see what I can do," Lawson said.

Both Teague and Lawson are looking to make an impression on Bird, a legend who obviously made a big impact on them.
