INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A dying wish will go un-granted after a devastating turn of events.
Pacers star Roy Hibbert was about to leave for Sacramento to visit a 12-year-old boy named Lee Eddins. Eddins idolized Hibbert and followed his career ever since his college days at Georgetown, but he also had stage four leukemia.
Hibbert planned to surprise Eddins by showing up to see him in California, but sadly the boy passed away before Hibbert could arrive.
"For him to follow me then, and follow me throughout my career, it's something that's inspiring," an emotional Hibbert said. "And his story is inspiring. You know I sit here and I'm holding back tears. I'm not afraid to say that. He's somebody that touched me without me even meeting him."
The Pacers star tweeted that he plans to be there to support Eddins' parents and family.
Hibbert also reportedly planned to have his mouth swabbed, just in case he might have been a bone marrow match.
