SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WISH) - Reggie Miller and Mel Daniels will become the first Indiana Pacers enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame after Friday’s ceremony, but Miller says he's already feeling the emotion.
"It's already hit me. Just driving into town and seeing this beautiful place, knowing we'll be a big part of it, for our families to see is amazing,” says Miller
Miller and the rest of the 2012 class were introduced at the hall Thursday. Daniels, a former ABA legend, recently took ill and won't be able to make the ceremony.
PHOTOS I A look at Reggie Miller's career
As for Reggie, it's all about the Blue and Gold. Asked if holding all those team records meant as much to him as playing his entire 18 year career with the Pacers, Miller said it’s not even close.
"It's rare anymore, but trying to bring a championship to a small market like Indianapolis is what I played for. Coming on the heels of guys like Daniels, Roger Brown, Rik Smits, the Davis boys, Derrick McKey, means the world to me. Now the Pacers are represented,” Miller said.
Friday, Miller’s sister Cheryl, Charles Barkley and Magic Johnson will present him. All three are already enshrined in Springfield.
"I'm keeping my emotions in now but, Friday will be tough,” Miller noted.
Pacers fans feel the same way.
