The Indiana Fever will advance to the WNBA finals. They are one step closer to becoming national champs.
Saturday night the Indiana Fever shocked Detroit with a 72-67 win at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Tammy Sutton-Brown led the Fever with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Katie Douglas added 14 points, while Tamika Catchings and Ebony Hoffman each scored 10 points apiece. Catchings also had eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Deanna Nolan had 16 points for Detroit. Alexis Hornbuckle scored 15 before fouling out with 18 seconds to play. Cheryl Ford finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Saturday's win was necessary for the Fever. This week there was talk that the franchise could fold. Herb Simon, Fever co-owner, told the Indianapolis Star that the team has lost money every year. He also said he wants more ticket sales.
The team, led by star Tamika Catchings, has been in the conference finals three times but has never made it to the WNBA finals.
It was Detroit who eliminated the Fever from the postseason the last three years falling in three games in the conference semifinals last season, but not this year.
The Fever will meet the winner of Saturday night's game between Los Angeles and Phoenix in a best-of-five series for the WNBA championship.
