INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - More than a dozen downtown buildings could be getting a super sized facelift for the Super Bowl.
An auction is underway for advertisers to turn the buildings exteriors into massive bill boards.
Seventeen buildings are up for auction at www.biggamewraps.com . Indianapolis based Mattison Corporation, an event planning company, is holding the auction.
"Having the building wraps it's really going to do a lot to promote the Super Bowl, promote the NFL and promote the advertisers involved as well" said Chris Price, Principal of Mattison Corp.
According to the website, advertising rights will only be sold to companies who are NFL sponsors. If a company is not an NFL Sponsor, a permit will likely be denied for advertising.
The website features building owners who have agreed to auction off the rights to advertise on their buildings. Detailed video footage will provide advertisers with a better understanding of the building, its surroundings, and the benefits to advertising at that location.
Opening bids start at $25,000, $35,000, and $50,000 depending upon the building’s location. Under a "Buy Now" option, a company could rent the north, east and west faces of the CSX building at Georgia and Pennsylvania Streets for $500,000.
The building wraps, banners or other type of advertisements will be displayed for the ten day period of the Super Bowl.
Local printer Brian Hall is excited about the on line auction. He owns Repro Graphix on Illinois street. His business can create and install any wraps that are ordered.
"If all 17 buildings sell that they have under contract with the owners, and then it could be a tremendous amount of business" said Hall.
Hill says giant wraps can take a day to create at a cost of $4-$5 a square foot.
Typically it takes a four man crew an entire work day to install a large wrap ad.
