Super Bowl XLVI Committee wraps up work

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - One week ago, Indianapolis was basking in the glow of putting on one of the most successful Super Bowls ever. Seven days later, the group that made it happen is winding down its work, and the headquarters it called home is being packed up and put away.

Outside, it's just another building looking for a tenant, with the “For Lease” sign hanging on the wall. Inside is what's left of more than three years of Super Bowl planning.

The game is over. It is time to fold up and pack up the place that was the nerve center of the planning and execution of Super Bowl XLVI.

Dianna Boyce remains in the middle of it.

"We started without any template,” the director of communications for the Super Bowl 2012 Host Committee said. “Of course there's what the NFL gives you, but we didn't really go by the NFL's playbook. We went beyond the NFL'S playbook."

She began her Super Bowl involvement as a volunteer back in 2008, then became part of the paid staff in 2010.

"We're not going anywhere,” she said. “We're all native Hoosiers, love this place.

“For me, going to help finish wrapping up what you see here. We've got some after-action reporting to do. And go back to something part-time again. Be a mom."

Some of what's left will be sold, some given to charity, some - like the printed pieces - will be put away to help those who might work on a future Indianapolis Super Bowl.

The countdown clocks that once sat on every desk simply say: "past".

"We still have the pictures, the memories, and take those moving forward, absolutely. It was fun, the chance of a lifetime. That's for sure," Boyce said.

Interns will finish their work by Friday. The building will be empty, and the committee will be disbanded by the end of March.
