INDIANAPOLIS (INDOT) - The Indiana Department of Transportation Greenfield District Safety Truck Roadeo took place Monday, August 13 at the Indianapolis Subdistrict facility.

First place winner Brian Stakelbeck of the Tipton Subdistrict and second place winner Kevin VanDuyn of the Indianapolis Subdistrict will represent the Greenfield District at the upcoming state finals at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy at Plainfield in October.

Drivers representing each of the Greenfield District’s five subdistricts (Albany, Cambridge City, Greenfield, Indianapolis and Tipton) competed Monday in the annual Safety Truck Roadeo, maneuvering a plow truck through an obstacle course designed to challenge drivers’ skills and prepare them for safe winter operations.

This year’s course included obstacles such as a forward and backward serpentine, alley dock, diminishing clearance and mailbox curve. Points are deducted for each cone or barrel touched by the truck or plow, and the most skillful driver with the fewest errors and highest point total wins.

Stakelbeck and VanDuyn will compete against two finalists from each of Indiana’s five other districts (Vincennes, Seymour, Crawfordsville, LaPorte, and Fort Wayne) as well as returning state champion Brock Powell, who also represents the Greenfield District.
