INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - One woman and two children were hurt Tuesday when the car they were in ran into a disabled semi tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder on Interstate 74 in Indianapolis, Indiana State Police said.
All lanes of eastbound Interstate 74 at the 94-mile marker, about a mile east of Interstate 465 on the city's southeast side, were closed for about an hour as a result. As of 4 p.m., all lanes had reopened.
The driver of the car, Jennene Scott, 43, was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Indianapolis Fire Department said. One of the children was also taken to Wishard, and the other was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. The children, ages 11 and 13, were both in serious but stable condition, IFD said.
The driver of the semi, Scott Baldwin, 52, told investigators he had pulled off to the side of the road to retrieve something that had fallen inside his truck. He said he had his hazard lights blinking, but within a few minutes the car struck him from behind. Baldwin was uninjured.
