INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana Department of Transportation says a key section of two interstate highways through downtown Indianapolis may reopen in time for Monday morning commuters.
INDOT says Interstate 70 eastbound and I-65 northbound were closed just north of the south split on Friday after an oversize vehicle struck the Virginia Avenue overpass and damaged one of its steel beams.
INDOT said Saturday that the beam can be repaired using readily available materials and it expects the work to be completed by Monday morning.
INDOT is diverting I-70 eastbound traffic to I-65 southbound at the south split and I-65 northbound traffic to I-70 westbound. Signs then direct drivers to follow the I-465 loop around Indianapolis as a detour.
