INDOT: I-465 lane reconstruction

INDIANAPOLIS (INDOT) - Planned construction to replace uneven pavement in the left lane of westbound Interstate 465 will shift traffic and temporarily close one ramp lane entering from southbound I-69. Motorists on I-465 westbound/northbound and I-69 southbound should expect delays—especially during the morning commute hours—and be aware of the 45 mph work zone speed limit.

Beginning Thursday night, September 13, the three westbound lanes of I-465 will be shifted to the right between I-69 and Allisonville Road. The ramp from southbound I-69 to westbound I-465 will be temporarily reduced to a single lane that will merge with the right lane of westbound I-465. There will not be a designated lane for exiting to Allisonville Road, but the northbound exit will remain open. Traffic lanes through the work zone will be narrowed to 11 feet wide, and trucks should use the center lane of I-465. This configuration is expected to be in place for approximately four weeks.

Replacement of uneven pavement in the left lane of westbound I-465 is part of the Allisonville Road bridge and interchange contract and was previously discussed at project open houses.

Walsh Construction, the project contractor, will close two lanes of westbound I-465 Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights to modify pavement markings and place temporary barrier wall. Beginning Monday night, September 17, eastbound I-465 will have a left lane restriction each night through Thursday night, September 20, to allow more room for trucks and workers to remove pavement from the westbound left lane.

Nighttime lane restrictions should be expected in both directions of I-465 between Allisonville Road and I-69 as work continues on subgrade construction, installation of drainage and paving operations. All nighttime traffic restrictions will take place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
