INDOT: I-70 traffic pattern changing

INDIANAPOLIS (INDOT) - The Indiana Department of Transportation advises motorists traveling Interstate 70 between Mt. Comfort Road and Post Road east of the city that a new traffic pattern will be initiated early next week.

Westbound traffic will no longer cross over the median to south side lanes near C.R. 700 West in Hancock County, then cross back over the median at the 92 mile marker after three miles. Instead, both westbound I-70 lanes will remain on the interstate's north side through the entire construction zone. Travel will be on the right westbound lane and the 12-foot shoulder.

There will be no change at this time to eastbound I-70 traffic. Travel lanes will continue to cross the I-70 median west of the Mt. Comfort Road exit.

Two thru lanes are being maintained in both directions.
Reith Riley, the state's contractor for this $32.3 million Major Moves project, is rebuilding nearly nine miles of I-70, adding a third travel lane in either direction.

INDOT anticipates work will be completed in September.
