RUSHVILLE, Ind. (INDOT) - The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close U.S. Highway 52 from State Road 244 at Andersonville to S.R. 3 at Rushville early Monday morning—allowing construction crews to mill and resurface this 11-mile section of two-lane roadway.
As soon as U.S. 52 closes, Milestone—the state’s contractor for this 1,289,726 district resurfacing project—will begin removing one-half inch of surface asphalt beginning at S.R. 244. A motorpaver is scheduled to trail the milling machine by one day. It will lay 1½ inches of new surface pavement.
Construction trucks carrying hot mix asphalt to the paver are going to be operating continuously between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. seven days a week.
U.S. 52 is closed to all through-traffic for approximately 25 days. Compliance will be enforced by state police patrols. An official detour utilizes S.R. 3 south of Rushville and S.R. 244 between S.R. 3 and U.S. 52 at Andersonville; there is an 11-foot width restriction on the detour route. Meanwhile, local traffic is being allowed within the U.S. 52 construction zone. Flaggers will direct motorists around moving work sites.
Weather conditions can alter the construction schedule.
