INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - IndyGo bus routes for The Indianapolis 500 Race and related festivities will shift local traffic. Detouring and/or delays will be in effect for the event that draws in thousands from around the world.
Pre-Race Day
From Wednesday, May 23 until Saturday, May 26, the race-related events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway could, depending on traffic and street access, put the following west side routes on detour during peak travel times: Routes 3, 15, 25, 30 and 38.
IPL 500 Festival Parade - Saturday, May 26
The IPL 500 Festival Parade on Saturday, May 26 will affect all fixed routes in the downtown Indianapolis area, resulting in the following bus stop closures:
Starting as early as 6 a.m., street closures will be in place to allow for setup. During the parade, riders should use Alabama Street at South Street for downtown pick ups, drop offs and transfers for fixed route service. IndyGo officials will be available to provide detour information to passengers. Detours are planned to last through 5 p.m.
The Green Line downtown/airport express will not serve the following stops:
Green Line passengers who would normally board at these locations should use Illinois
St./Market Street and Illinois St./Jackson Place.
Race Day - Sunday, May 27
IndyGo does not offer local fixed route or shuttle service to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on race day. Additionally, IndyGo Routes 3, 5, 10, 15 and 37 will be on detour. Route 38, servicing West 38th Street, will only go on detour in the event of heavy traffic and/or street blockage. Prepare for the following bus stops to be closed on race day:
Memorial Day - Monday, May 28
In observance of Memorial Day, IndyGo will operate on a Sunday schedule for the holiday.
