FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - One person is dead following a crash on Interstate 69 early Sunday morning.

Police say around 3:30 a.m. an SUV was traveling north around the Goshen Road exit when the driver may have hit the back of a semi-truck, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The SUV hit a guard rail then traveled across the road and hit the center barrier wall.  Police say the driver of the semi may not have noticed the impact and kept driving.

A pickup truck, also traveling north, tried to avoid the accident but lost control of the vehicle hitting the back of the SUV before coming to a stop, our sister station WANE reports.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead by medics at the scene. He was not wearing his seatbelt.

The driver of the pickup truck wasn't injured.

Police are asking any semi-truck drivers that discover damage to the back of their vehicle and were in the area at the time of the accident to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department's Traffic Division at (260) 427-1206.

Northbound traffic between the 305, Illinois Road, and 309, Goshen Road, will remain closed while crews continue to investigate and cleanup the crash.
