INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Staffers at the Indiana State Museum have been hard at work assembling 300 bones of "Fred the Mastodon."
Chief Curator Ronald Richards says they believe the bones are about 13,000 years old. The bones themselves are authentic, found right here in Indiana.
Richards says more mastodons have been discovered in Indiana than any other state. The exhibit stands 9 feet high and 20 feet long.
Dick Wolfsie visited the museum while Fred was being constructed and then went back for a look at the final display. The exhibit opens January 24, 2013.
