INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Cold conditions and slick roads led more than 200 schools to delay Friday morning.
Roads are glazed over due to light snow from Thursday afternoon and evening.
Early morning temperatures were in the single digits, and overnight some police agencies were busy dealing with cars that couldn't handle the slick roads.
Several wrecks were reported Thursday afternoon and evening. Most notably, about 40 cars crashed on I-70 Thursday afternoon, shutting down the interstate for several hours.
Between 5:50 p.m. Thursday until 7 a.m. Friday, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office handled 20 slide-off reports, 13 accidents without injuries and two accidents in which people were hurt.
In Bartholomew County, road conditions became "horrible" around midnight, police dispatchers there said. They responded to about 25 slide-offs and had intermittent closures on Interstate 65.
Bloomington State Police and Versailles State Police say they responded to a number of slide offs Thursday night.
Morgan and Shelby counties say they also worked a number of crashes around their counties.
Spencer-Owen Community Schools closed for the day Friday because of bad road conditions.
