PHOENIX, Ariz. (CNN/KPHO) - Phoenix was in the direct path of a 2,500-foot wall of dust Thursday evening.

The dust storm rolled in just as the rush hour was getting started, prompting warnings for drivers to pull over because of poor visibility.

The storm was also expected to bring showers and thunderstorms into the Phoenix area.

Forecasters expect rain and thunderstorms in the area throughout the weekend.
