Christmas lights go 'Gangnam Style'

CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) - You can't seem to escape it.

It's everywhere.

PSY's ubiquitous song, "Gangnam Style," has been all over the pop culture radar since the summer, but now the song's shelf life is being extended into the holiday season thanks to one Central Texas man in Cedar Park.

Meet John Storms.

Storms and his family have only lived in this home in the Ranch of Brushy Creek subdivision for a few months but even before he started unpacking all the moving boxes, he started unpacking the Christmas lights.

Nothing says "hello neighbors" like putting up more than 25,000 lights. But, Storms' neighbors don't mind, in fact they love the idea that they have their own Clark Griswold.

"He barely unpacked and first thing he started with was the lights," said a neighbor. "How do you compete with that?"

When Storms started this light show years ago, the electric bill would run into the hundreds even thousands of dollars for a show like this, but not anymore.

"All our lights we have are LED, so they just sip on electricity," said Storms. "It'll only be $15 for the entire month of December."

While he has most of the lights set to traditional Christmas music, the Storms family wanted to spice up their decorations with a little Korean-pop flavor!

Storms is his own maestro. With the help of a little computer magic.

"We have the notebook computer -- a little dongle here -- that connects the lights. Then we have a little obvious transmitter that connects us to the radio, just enough to reach the street," beamed Storms.

It takes Storms about two weeks to put up all the lights and coordinate the music.

People walking by can't hear the music -- you can only hear the music through an FM radio tuner. For some individuals who have had enough of the Gangnam Style song, think of that gesture as a Christmas gift.
