KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (CNN) - A slithery hitchhiker gave a Tennessee driver quite a surprise when it popped out of a dashboard vent.

Jim Tipton was driving home on the highway when he saw the snake in his car. He then pulled off the road, set the brake and got out of the vehicle.

The car was towed to a service shop where workers later found a small corn snake. The critter did not survive the highway adventure.
