LUZHOU, China (CNN/CCTV) - Crews in China's Sichuan Province rescued a man trapped in dangerous floodwaters Sunday.
CCTV reports the man became stranded near a pier in a raging river. Firefighters used the bucket of an excavator to try and rescue the man, but he didn't respond.
They tried using a rope three times before eventually lowering a ladder to pull him out.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A torrential downpour has left at least 37 people dead in Beijing, according to the state news agency Xinhua.
Officials said the heaviest rain in six decades has afflicted almost two million people, causing more than one billion dollars in economic losses.
