KILLEEN, Texas (KXAN) - The Army appointed an investigating officer for the pre-trial investigation to determine if there is sufficient evidence for courts-martial proceedings in the case of Major Nidal Malik Hasan in the shootings on Fort Hood military post.

Colonel James Pohl and Major Hasan's defense team were notified of the investigation on Monday. The investigation officer will have the discretion to approve reasonable delays in the start of the hearing. However, the preliminary date of March 1 was set for the trial.

On Nov. 12, charges were filed against Hasan for the shootings at Fort Hood on Nov. 5. He is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder, and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder.
