Purdue requiring measles shot for students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue University is warning 972 students they have until March 12 to show proof they have received measles immunizations.

James Westman, director of the Student Health Center said these students will receive emails warning a hold will be placed on their academic records and they will not be able to register for classes if they fail to produce the proper documentation.

This action follows the report from the Indiana Department of Health of an outbreak of measles in the Indianapolis Super Bowl Village.

"This should be particularly concerning to students who are not yet compliant with immunization regulations," Westman said. "Should a confirmed case of measles be reported on the Purdue West Lafayette campus, all students who are not compliant and do not show a measles immunity will be excluded from attending classes and other campus activities for the duration of any potential outbreak, which is no less than seven days and possibly more than 21 days.”

Vaccinations have a 30-day window before you can be considered compliant, said Westman.
