LONDON (AP) — The parents of missing British girl Madeleine McCann say they believe Portuguese authorities will eventually reopen the investigation into their daughter's disappearance.

Portuguese police said last week that they'd not yet found any new evidence to merit reopening the investigation into the fate of Madeleine, who vanished during a family vacation in southern Portugal in May 2007 shortly before her fourth birthday.

But Madeleine's father Geri told journalists Wednesday — ahead of the fifth anniversary of her disappearance — that there was "ongoing dialogue" with officials in Portugal. He added, "I am sure the investigation will get opened again in due course."

Interest in Madeleine's 2007 disappearance snowballed into an international media frenzy.
