BOSTON (AP) - With the academic year winding down and graduation looming, Boston University has been hit with the news that three students studying in New Zealand were killed when their minivan crashed during a weekend trip.
New Zealand authorities say at least five other students from the university were injured in the accident early Saturday, including one who was in critical condition.
Final exams ended Friday, and students who live on campus were in the process of packing up on Saturday.
Eighteen-year-old student Marcelle Richards says the news of the tragedy was "really upsetting," but adds that it won't deter her from studying abroad later in her college career.
A candlelight vigil is planned on campus for Saturday evening.
