SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Russia's Bolshoi Ballet will perform next year at the upstate New York amphitheater where the New York City Ballet has seen its annual summer residency reduced from three weeks to one week.
Local media report the Saratoga Performing Arts Center announced Thursday that the Moscow-based dance troupe will stage four performances of "Don Quixote" from July 30 to Aug. 1.
The venue in Saratoga Springs is one of three U.S. locations on Bolshoi's 2014 schedule. One of the others is the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The third hasn't been announced.
SPAC (spak) is the longtime summer home of the New York City Ballet. The troupe's Saratoga residency was only one week this past summer, down from the traditional three-week stay, because of rising costs. It's also performing for one week next summer.
