YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — An official say the deadline has been extended until May 1 to raise $8 million to save portions of the historic Detroit-area factory where Rosie the Riveter once worked.
Much of the former Willow Run bomber plant in Washtenaw County's Ypsilanti Township is to be torn down. It was a key World War II military facility.
The nearby Yankee Air Museum has been campaigning to preserve a 175,000-square-foot section of the 5 million-square-foot plant as its future home.
The museum said earlier that it was giving supporters until this Friday to meet the fundraising goal.
But museum founder Museum Founder Dennis Norton tells MLive.com (http://bit.ly/1gToJ3R ) that there's been "enough progress" with "some big grants" received, making the extension possible.
The General Motors bankruptcy trust controls the site.
