FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A member of the Indiana National Guard was arrested on a felony charge of rape after a woman said he raped her while she was asleep.
According to officials, the victim, a 22-year-old Indianapolis woman, told police that Jared L. Smith, 29, of Portage, raped her in a Fort Wayne hotel back in June.
Police said Smith entered the woman's unlocked hotel room, climbed into her bed, and then had sex with her while she was sleeping.
The victim told police Smith stopped having sex with her and left after she woke up.
According to police, the woman and Smith were acquaintances.
Smith was in Fort Wayne for a military obligation for the Indiana National Guard the night the alleged rape occurred, according to the report.
After a four month long investigation, Indiana State Police officials arrested Smith at the Indiana National Guard Armory in Fort Wayne after serving him an Allen Superior Court arrest warrant on Thursday afternoon.
Smith is being held in the Allen County Jail with a $10,000 bond, according to police.
