Release on the book and series:
In a futuristic Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue–Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Once a year, every 16-year-old must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. Beatrice Prior must choose between the family she’s grown up with or to face initiation into a new faction. Those who fail their initiation become Factionless. Those who don't fit into one faction are considered a danger to society: they are Divergent.
One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. Every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of identity and loyalty, politics and love. Transformed by radical new discoveries, shifting relationships, and the haunting grief and guilt she feels in her own heart, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not yet know what—or whom—she may lose by doing so.
