Installing a window AC
They tend to cool a room versus the entire house. If they provide cooling only where needed, room AC's are less expensive to operate than central units, even though their efficiency is typically lower than most central air
conditioners. Smaller room AC units can be plugged into any 15 or 20 amp, 115 volt household circuit.
Here are four easy steps to doing it.
Make sure that you have a three prong grounded outlet. Also be sure that there
is nothing outside that may disturb air flow to the unit. Points of reference is to
measure the size of your window. You do not want it too big or too small. Measure
the room size you desire to cool. Check manufacture window and room sizes.
Preparation for install will entail cleaning both sides of the window. You
will need to unpack the AC unit and save the box for storage in the off season.
Align the top rail with the designated holes in the unit and attached with enclosed screws. There will be side filler panels that will need to be extended and inserted into the rails on the cabinet.
Repeat the same on the other side.
Pick the unit up and set into the window. Make sure the bottom rail is against the outside edge of the sil of the window frame. Extend the frame, position the lock, drill a pilot hole and set with a screw. Install screws to the window clip and along the sash.
Set the sash lock on the lower sash and drill a pilot hole to secure with a screw. Take the
enclosed foam window seal and cut to length, insert between the upper and lower sashes. Look at unit from outside to make sure there is an angle that the unit is leaning away from the room to allow for proper drainage. Use weather seal to plug any gaps. Finally, plug unit into wall and enjoy the cool breeze.
