Amazon launches in-car delivery

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Instead of having an Amazon package delivered to your doorstep, an Amazon locker or inside your home, the company is now letting certain customers choose to have purchases delivered to their cars. Indianapolis was one of 37 cities where the program launched Tuesday.

Amazon Key already lets delivery drivers enter homes to drop off packages for those who sign up for the service. Now a new program lets Amazon Prime members let the delivery drivers open their cars and leave their packages inside. Customers park within range of a delivery location and get notifications on their phones when their package has arrived.

The catch? The service only works right now with compatible 2015 or newer Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicles with OnStar accounts as well as Volvos that are 2015 or newer and have a Volvo On Call account. The company plans to expand to other types of cars in the future.
