Boy makes dance team after association changed rule

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KCAU) – It’s a big victory for a student at Dakota Valley High School.

Freshman Freddie Linden auditioned for the dance team Thursday and he made the team.

This happened after the South Dakota High School Activities Association changed its rules to allow both boys and girls to participate in competitive dance

Attorneys representing Freddie Linden had asked a judge to declare the association’s policy preventing boys from participating in high school competitive dance as unconstitutional.

But, it never got to that point because the association’s board held a special meeting and voted 7-0 to allow both boys and girls to dance competitively for the next school year.
