Honda recalls more than 5,000 cars due to potential injury risk

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — American Honda is voluntarily recalling more than 5,000 cars due to a potential injury risk in the case of a crash.

According to Honda, model-year 2018 Acura DMX, Honda Pilot and Honda Ridgeline cars in the United States are being recalled.

The front driver and passenger seats in these cars may have been assembled with an improperly manufactured rivet, which secures the seat’s side rails to the forward seat feet. Honda said in the event of a crash, the rivets could break and potentially separate the seat from the floor, increasing the risk of injury to the person sitting there.

Honda has not received any injury of crash reports related to this recall. The company said that anyone who owns one of these models can visit an authorized dealer to have the front seat frame components replaced for free.

The company will be sending mail notifications to customers beginning in late-May.
