Restaurant worker fired after writing customers’ race on receipt

A Bradenton, Florida, restaurant has fired an employee who is accused of writing a customers’ race on their receipt.

The firing came after the customer wrote about the incident on Facebook.

The customer, who goes by the name of Dem Gyrlz Reign on Facebook, said she took her son to Caddy’s At The Pointe, a waterfront restaurant on Riverside Drive East.

When it came time to pay, she noticed that the area designated for a table number on the receipt said “LOUNGBLK FAM.”

She asked her Facebook friends to tell the restaurant what they thought about it.

“Hey family, please do me favor and call ‘Caddy’s at the point’ and ask them why they refer to their black customers by race but their white customers by table number. My son and I were just there, this was our bill and a white customer’s bill. He attempted to scratch it out on the receipt I had to sign but had already given me a copy.”

The restaurant apologized and fired the employee and also posted about the incident on its Facebook page.

“To All of Our Loyal Caddy’s Customers,

“We have need to address an regrettable event that happened in our store this evening. One of our staff members labeled a table by the color of their skin and not by the table or seat number which is Caddy’s standard. We sincerely apologize to the family that was involved, this is absolutely unacceptable. We want to assure you that this has been immediately addressed with our staff and can assure you it will never happen again.

“UPDATE: We wanted to share with you all that the individual involved was terminated and no longer works for our company. Although we know this does not rectify what happened. We did want to share that this kind of behavior is will not be tolerated in our establishment.”

Some Caddy’s customers were impressed with the restaurant’s actions and posted about it in the restaurant’s comments section.

“I feel like letting us know this person was terminated will actually make more people want to be patrons. Good thing I wasn’t there and didn’t witness it. I can’t stand people like that,” said Krissy Kris.

“First class response to a classless act,” John Wolf wrote.

Other Facebook users said they felt bad for the Reign family.

“Ms. Reign please tell your son how sad many are to hear this happened to him,” wrote Kathleen Hogan Kuhlman.

“It is so sad that you and your family experienced this. I also hope your son doesn’t experience this again. It is unacceptable,” said Cori-Lynn Petrilla.

Caddy’s At The Pointe is at 801 Riverside Drive East in Bradenton.
