DERIDDER, La. (AP) — Boise Inc. plans a $111 million revamp at its mill in DeRidder to switch a newsprint machine to one that will make packaging components.
The company's vice president of manufacturing, Mark Haser, and Gov. Bobby Jindal held a news conference Thursday in DeRidder to announce the plan.
A news release says the expansion will add 54 permanent jobs to the 440 at the plant and create 600 construction jobs.
Officials say the DeRidder site was one of several being considered. Louisiana Economic Development offered modernization tax credits totaling $3 million modernization over five years and $600,000 in public infrastructure improvements.
The company is also expected to use the state's workforce development program, its industrial tax exemption and payroll rebates for new jobs.
