63-year-old dies in east side hit-and-run crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 63-year-old man died after a two-vehicle, hit-and-run crash on the city’s east side early Thursday morning. 

Allen Cornett died of multiple blunt trauma in the accident, the Marion County Coroner’s Office said Thursday afternoon. 

The crash happened about 12:45 p.m. in the area of East 10th Street and North Ridgeview Drive. That’s near Anderson Cemetery and Pleasant Run Golf Course. 

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers went to the area for a report of a crash involving two vehicles: a white sport-utility vehicle and a maroon car. The SUV was traveling west on East 10th Street when it slammed into the car as it was attempting to turn east onto 10th Street. Cornett, who was driving the car, was initially thought to be in serious condition, but he died at the scene.

Police say the driver of the SUV fled the scene on foot after the crash. 

No suspect information has been released.
