IMPD releases photos of potential witnesses of September homicide of teen

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Detectives made a plea Monday for help identifying potential witnesses in homicide nearly a month ago on the east side in the Pogue’s Run neighborhood.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in a news release provided photos of people being sought in the case.

Officers responded about 9:08 p.m. Sept. 20 to shots being fired at the intersection of East 10th and North Oxford streets, the release said. Officers found people standing near Nathan Burnett, 19, who had suffered gunshot wounds. He later died in the emergency room at Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office had identified the 19-year-old as Nathan Williams. It was not immediately clear why the coroner identified the victim by a different name than police.

“Homicide responded to the scene and attempted to interview several people on scene,” the IMPD release said. “They still need your help in identifying possible witnesses to the shooting. Please view the photographs and see if you can identify the people and if so please contact IMPD Homicide 317-327-3475 or the assigned detective at 317-327-2558. You can remain anonymous.”
