Lawrence police seek to identify traffic stop suspects

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) – Police in Lawrence are asking for the public’s help to identify three people in connection with a Friday morning incident where shots were fired at officers.

They released photos of two of the suspects, who they say were caught on camera at a convenience store near where the shots were fired in the area of 42nd Street and Post Road at approximately 10:15 a.m.

According to the Lawrence Police Department, an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Friday. The driver of the vehicle did not comply, leading to a pursuit.

The vehicle then turned into a nearby apartment complex. When the road came to a dead end, three suspects exited the vehicle. That’s when police say the driver (pictured left) fired at least one shot as he ran. Police believe the second suspect (pictured right) fled carrying a backpack.

A third person police say ran from the stopped sport-utility vehicle was not captured by the surveillance video.

No officers were injured during the incident.

If you have any information about the suspects seen in the surveillance images, you’re encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
