INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Detectives with IMPD have arrested a man in connection with the death of a 16-year-old on July 4.
Monquize Edwards,16, was shot and killed on July 4 on West Maryland Street. Eron Bonner, 18, has been charged by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a Class B felony, and the Criminal Gang Enhancement.
The shooting happened just an hour after the Freedom Blast Fireworks Show, where thousands of people were crowded into the downtown area.
Bonner was arrested by detectives without incident, police say. He was captured on surveillance video (wearing white shirt and white hat), IMPD officials say.
After the news of his arrest, 24-Hour News 8 heard from the victim's mother, Tenika Edwards.
"I can't wait to see IMPD because I'm going to give them hi-fives," she said. "That detective promised me he was going to be caught, and he stuck with his word."
The funeral for Monquize Edwards is scheduled for July 12.
Detectives would still like to talk to anyone who may have witnessed something during this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call IMPD Aggravated Assault Detectives at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
