MARION, Ind. (WISH) - The former chief of the Marion Fire Department was charged on Thursday with multiple felonies stemming from his time as chief.
Grant County Prosecutor James Luttrull filed 14 felony charges against Stephen Gorrell from his time as chief from 2006 to 2011.
The charges include theft, official misconduct, forgery and corrupt business influence, according to court documents.
Gorrell is accused of abusing a vacation day payback policy to receive extra funds from the department, according to the probable cause affidavit. He's also accused of taking specialty pay bonuses he wasn't entitled to take, keeping donated items for his personal use and taking lights purchased for the fire department for his barn.
Indiana State Police began investigating Gorrell in October. He declined three opportunities to speak to investigators.
Gorrell was booked into the Grant County Jail around noon on Thursday.
