MITCHELL, Ind. (WISH) - Indiana Conservation Officers arrested a suspect following a number of thefts that occurred Tuesday at the Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell.
Police say the break-ins and thefts happened to several campers and their vehicles in the state park. The suspects also stole a truck early Wednesday morning.
Officers were able to track a possible location of the suspects and the stolen items to a home south of Mitchell, according to a release.
Police say a related vehicle theft occurred Monday -- that car was recovered in Lawrence County near the state park earlier Wednesday.
Officers were checking properties in the area for suspects when two men fled on food into some corn fields, police say.
One suspect, 40-year-old Mark Hackney, was immediately apprehended. A K-9 track began for the second suspect, who remains at large.
Hackney was arrested on two outstanding warrants for burglary and receiving stolen property.
Officers recovered a number of items related to the thefts. Those items include a stolen truck, tools, personal items and jewelry.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
