INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An aide to former Marion County prosecutor Carl Brizzi will return to federal court in July. The hearing will determine if the court will accept his guilty plea to a bribery charge.
David Wyser is the former chief deputy prosecutor in Marion County and was a candidate for prosecutor in Hamilton County.
He was in court Thursday morning for an initial hearing. He's accused of taking a bribe in 2009 to reduce the sentence of convicted killer Paula Willoughby.
Willoughby was serving a 110-year sentence for the plotted murder of her husband. But on an appeal, her sentence was reduced to 40 years for murder and 30 years for conspiracy.
Willoughby's father wrote a $2,500 check to the Committee to Elect David Wyser , the charging document said. It was deposited on June 22, 2009. The following day, Wyser signed the agreement to modify Willoughby's sentence.
Wyser will not be in custody while awaiting his next appearance.
