ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) - An Elwood man was arrested early Sunday morning after the car he was driving hit a utility pole.
Police say around 2:17 a.m. Sunday, Ivan Thompson, 28, was driving a 2001 Dodge Neon north on County Road 200 West, when he hit a mailbox in the 3900 block of North County Road 200 West.
Police say his passenger, Candice A. Juday, 23, of Alexandria, requested he stop driving the vehicle. She later told medics she was 8 months pregnant.
Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said in a press released that the vehicle then went off the east side of 200 West and struck a utility pole head-on. The pole broke off approximately two feet from the ground. The vehicle spun and landed in a ditch.
Juday was taken to Community Hospital in Anderson for head, hand and abdomen pain.
Thompson complained of pain caused from the seatbelt. He was taken to St. Vincent in Anderson and then to the Madison County Detention Center. A chemical test revealed his BAC was .13. He was arrested and preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
A family of five was uninjured after a house fire on the city's east side early Friday morning.
Police dispatchers in Morgan County say a crash closed both directions of Mann Road on Friday morning.
The snow heading toward Central Indiana comes during a major weekend in downtown Indianapolis.
