PERU, Ind. (WISH) - One Peru man faces murder and gun charges after another was shot dead outside a home Sunday night.
At about 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Peru police were called to a home at 271 S. Broadway and found John W. Phelps, 26, Peru, shot in the head. Phelps was pronounced dead at Dukes Memorial Hospital, police said.
Zachary A. Sebastian, 30, Peru, was arrested and preliminarily charged with murder and illegal possession of a handgun.
Police said Sebastian, who was acquainted with Phelps, was walking to his residence, in the area of where the shooting happened. Sebastian was talking with Phelps and other witnesses when he showed them the weapon he was carrying.
Sebastian was being held without bond Monday at the Miami County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing.
